The Rezidor Hotel Group recently had the pleasure to welcome 9 young trainees at the Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar from February to August 2014. The students were chosen by the local SOS Children’s Village as part of the country’s first Youth Career Initiative program.
The Youth Career Initiative (YCI) is a 24-week education program that empowers disadvantage young people and trains them for their future professional and social life. Young students between 18 and 21 years-old that dropped out of school or lacked the financial means to complete their education or are at-risk of exploitation can be eligible for this program. YCI provide its students with life and work skills that make them employable but most important of all will allow them to make positive life decisions.
The students learned about computer literacy, job preparation, career development, team work, customer services, healthy eating, and social skills and also had English lessons. Practical trainings through hands-on experience in the different departments (housekeeping, restaurant, kitchen, human resources, finance…) were also part of their program.
The Radisson Blu Hotel Dakar hosted the graduation ceremony for the 9 graduates to receive their certificates and the hotel’s General Manager, Mr. Jorgen Jorgensen, welcomed the graduates with their families. Five of the 9 students continue their training at the hotel.
